Our first Try it Out event was a great success! We had a big group of riders show up at the East Bay German International School in Emeryville last weekend. Student-athletes practiced a rollover ramp, navigating a cone zone, and partying with the famous training chickens. We’d like to extend a special thank you to head coach and team director Caron from the @ebgis_mtb_team for organizing this event and our own Terry Curley @bike4sanity for putting in a bunch of extra work to help make this happen. We’d also like to thank our long time sponsor @hyperthreads for sending our good friend @jetdog9 to help, too. And we can’t forget all of the time that @mike_schultz_plumbing spent making sure our trailer was fully dialed for the launch of this program. It takes a village, but that’s why we’re here! Our 2024-2025 Trek Fundraiser Campaign is live until February 7th! We're hosting a Q&A for anyone interested from 5:30-6:30 this evening. Check below for a link to the Google Meet. Thanks to our friends @trekbikes for donating a Trek Supercaliber SLR 9.8 XT this year, along with a Bontrager Blaze WaveCel helmet and set of Bontrager Ion lights. We've added 5 NorCal League VIP parking passes for use at our races in 2025 (RVs excluded), and the first 15 student-athletes or coaches credited with $500 in sales earn a spot to a skills clinic with Brian Astell on January 25th!Participation is easy, go to our Trek Fundraiser Campaign link in bio, make a donation and enter to win any of the mentioned prizes. At checkout, donors can attribute their donation to a specific student-athlete or team. Funds are split 50/50 between the league and teams.The league will spend funds on equipment for our races, trailer improvements, compensating our hard-working race crew, and more! Our good friend and long-time supporter of the league @otisguy_mbhof is being inducted into the US Bicycling Hall of Fame for his contributions to the sport. Otis Guy is one of the early pioneers of the modern off-road mountain bike movement. For over 50 years he has contributed to the sport by competing in MTB races, building early MTB frames, establishing a top Cross-Country MTB team of male and female racers, founding an MTB camp for kids, coaching high school mountain bike racing, becoming a founding board member of the Marin Museum of Bicycling, and serving as the Director of the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame since 2014In his career as a professional firefighter, Otis has trained over 800 mountain bike high school coaches in emergency aid procedures for MTB rides. Originally a road racer, in 1973 he started riding old newspaper delivery bicycles off-road on Mt. Tamalpais in Marin County, CA. Otis was part of the first known organized mountain bike race in 1976 at the Repack course near Fairfax, CA. Guy is a previous winner of that downhill race which was discontinued after 1984. He raced in the first NORBA National Championships in 1983. Otis raced in the first UCI World Championships in Durango in 1990, in the Master’s category in both cross-country and downhill. He is the only person to have raced all three events: Repack, the first National Championships, and the first UCI Worlds.
